A family with a holiday property in France, a family business based in Germany, and children living in both countries came to us after realising their existing German will made no reference to the French property, and could have left it subject to French forced heirship rules the family had never intended to trigger.
We built a single estate plan that worked across both jurisdictions rather than two separate wills that risked contradicting each other, coordinating a EU Succession Regulation election so the family's chosen law governed the full estate rather than defaulting property by property. The plan was reviewed against both German and French formal requirements before being finalised.
The family now holds a single, internally consistent estate plan that reflects their actual wishes across both jurisdictions, reviewed on the same schedule as their other planning documents.
