Following a separation, one parent based in the UAE sought to relocate the couple's child from Germany, while the other parent, remaining in Germany, opposed the move. The matter raised a genuine question of which jurisdiction's courts had authority before the custody question itself could even be addressed.
Working alongside German family counsel, we resolved the jurisdictional question first, then negotiated a parenting arrangement that preserved the child's relationship with both parents across the two countries, including a detailed travel and schooling schedule rather than a vague relocation agreement likely to generate further disputes later.
